Application for M-J Arts Festival Amateur Photography Competition

Exhibit Dates:         West Side Gallery: May 13th, 14th & 15th, Arts Festival May 17th.

Entry deadline:  April 30th, 2008

Rules:

1.      Photographs may be color or black and white.

2.     Photographs must be at least 8x10, including mat.

3.     Photographs MUST be matted, either single or double mats, but may not be framed.  No framed photographs will be accepted for judging.  Each entry must have an application form attached to the lower right hand corner of the mat.

4.     Each person may enter up to 4 prints.

5.     Each entry must be titled and have a label affixed to the lower right corner of the front of the mat.  Circle the category in which you are entering the print.  Fill in all the information.  Official labels are included with this entry form.

6.     Entries must be submitted by 12:00 NOON, Wednesday, April30th to: West Side Gallery,   31 W. Market Street in Lewistown.  Phone: (717) 242-1119.

7.     Categories:  Still Life, Animals, People, General Landscape, Miscellaneous, Architectural Landscape, Sports and Action, Digitally Enhanced, Composites.  Photographs may be produced from film or digital files.  Digitally enhanced photos must include the original file printed to show where print was enhanced.  Composites must be of one subject matter or theme and mat must measure at least 11x14 but no larger than 20x24.

8.     Photographs will be on display during regular festival hours on Saturday only.  Entries may be picked up at the end of the day on Saturday at the festival or the following week at West Side Gallery during regular business hours.  Please pick up your photograph!

9.     Entries must be classified in one of three age groupings:                                          Children- Ages 8 to 12,   Teens-Ages 13 to 18,   Adults-Ages 19 and older.

10. Although all care will be taken to ensure their safety, the Arts Council will not be responsible for any damage incurred while prints are on display at the festival.

11.   For your own peace of mind, and ours, please have your print and mat professionally protected with shrink wrap.  This will protect it from possible water damage and fingerprints.  The committee greatly appreciates your cooperation on this matter.

12. The score that you will receive is an overall accumulative point average of (3) individual judges using the guidelines given in the application.  Prints are scored in 5 areas:  Composition, Presentation, Storytelling Quality, Exposure, and Over-all Visual Image.  Ribbons and rosettes are awarded to the highest point scores.  Highest possible score is 25 points.  “Best of Show” is awarded to the highest overall score.  “Best of Category” is awarded to the highest scoring print within each category in categories containing 4 or more entries.  In categories containing less than 4 prints, the highest scoring photograph receives the 1st place blue ribbon.  First, second, and third place ribbons are awarded in each category according to print score.  The balance of entries receives a merit ribbon.

13.                        ***Shrink wrap is required on all entries to protect the mat and print.***
